There has not been a single day that passes without hearing about fitness, good health and a proper diet. Everyone is talking about adopting the Ketogenic diet which is a diet that gives up carbs and adds fats to meals. These days there is a new diet being promoted as the cult diet ‘Dubrow Diet’. Here we present for the clarity of our readers a review of Dubrow Diet which is coming up as a ‘cult diet’ these days.
What is the Dubrow Diet?
The Dubrow Diet is being promoted as interval eating to lose weight and feel ageless. This diet was created by a TV reality show couple- Heather Dubrow and Terry Dubrow. This couple released their book, ‘The Dubrow Diet’ and soon got listed as Amazon’s best seller. The essence of this diet is to help people lose weight and with increased energy levels. Dubrow diet, along with cutting out carbs, also suggests irregular fasting along with a few cheat meals. By following this, it helps to activate anti-ageing ability of our cells due to a process called autophagy and helps maintain our youthful appearances.
The Dubrow Diet is a diet plan that includes 12–16 hours per day Intermittent Fasting and is done in three stages. This diet sets few food guidelines about the categories of foods which can be eaten. Yes, one has to be specific about the food quantity.
Dubrow Diet; How it aids weight loss?
This so called cult diet emphasizes on eating healthy food and cutting off processed foods, (like any other good diet), which helps in weight loss. The foods recommended in Dubrow Diet are rich in fiber, which moves slowly through our digestive tract and helps reduce hunger.
Being low in carbs it helps increase body metabolism and reduces fat. In fact, this Dubrow Diet helps lose weight upto 8% of the body weight by irregular fasting for about 3-12 weeks. Above all, in earlier stages of irregular fasting, the metabolism works up well which helps to burn more calories.

My take on Dubrow diet-
Just like everything else Dubrow Diet also has its grey areas.
First of all, this being a fusion diet has nothing new to offer. It is just a combination of common concepts of losing weight with fasting and low carb diet which is not sustainable for a longer period of time, especially for Indians.
Dubrow Diet focuses on reduced calorie intake. Although it leads to weight loss but it can harm our metabolism and may cause side effects like fatigue, weakness, changes in mood, and lack of focus. This diet is inappropriate for the people having type 1 diabetes and low blood pressure. It is also not recommended to be adopted by pregnant or nursing women.
