Hot Milk or Cold Milk – Which one is Better?

Hello All!!!

Milk is a staple in every Indian home. Except vegans, milk is consumed by most people to meet their nutritional needs. It is regarded as the healthiest source of calcium and numerous health benefits. It is most often consumed hot but there are people who love to have a glass of chilled milk.

Have you ever thought the difference between the two? Is it good to drink hot milk or should you opt for cold milk? Which of the two is healthier? If you want to find your answers, you have landed at the right place!

Hot milk or cold milk?

According to a leading nutritionist, you can drink hot or cold milk depending on the time of the day or the weather condition. When consumed during the day in summer, cold milk is beneficial as it helps in cooling down the body and in reducing pitta. On the other hand, cold milk must be avoided in winters and hot milk should be consumed with a dash of turmeric. Doing so will help you stay warm. When you drink milk at wrong hours of the day or during the wrong season, you can end up with mucous and other health problems.

When you talk of nutrient density, both hot milk and cold milk are equally nutritious. However, you need to keep the climate in mind and avoid cold milk during the winter season. Doing so will give your cold and cough.

Health benefits of hot milk

The primary health benefit of hot milk is that it gets digested easily and wards off uncomfortable digestive issues like bloating and diarrhea. Drinking warm milk before going to bed gives you sound sleep as it contains an amino acid – tryptophan which produces sleep inducing hormones like serotonin and melatonin. So, if you have a difficulty falling asleep at night, it is advised that you have some warm milk before retiring to bed. It will definitely help you sleep well.

Health benefits of cold milk

Cold milk is more of a magic potion! It helps in relieving acidity and the burning sensation associated with it. Additionally, the high calcium content prevents the build-up of acid and helps in the absorption of any excess acid. This reduces the symptoms of acidity. Also, milk has a lot of electrolytes that help in fighting dehydration. Consuming cold milk in the morning helps in keeping you well hydrated during the day. However, it is best to avoid it before going to bed as it can cause digestive issues. There is another benefit of cold milk but this one is external, you can use it as a natural cleanser for your face.

Which one is better – hot milk or cold milk?

Milk is a superfood and a part of the diet for most people. You can consume it the way you want it – hot or cold! Both have their own benefits to offer. It would be better if you drink it according to the climate so that you can make most of the goodness. Also, remember that if you are lactose intolerant, you should not consume milk as it will cause side effects.
